Bloodline — Umbilical cord — Expectation

This experimental video explores the theme of Chinese familial expectations: within the family, superiors transmit expectations to subordinates through blood ties. In the work, I use a puppet family as the central subject, employing the imagery of Earth-Moon-satellite celestial bodies to represent the encircling relationship within the puppet family. The umbilical cord connecting the puppet family symbolizes their blood ties. Colored silk threads representing expectations first sprout from the heart of the largest puppet, coiling around itself before winding past the middle puppet to reach the smallest. Ultimately, the smallest puppet collapses under the weight. At the film's conclusion, these symbolic threads of expectation flare to life before abruptly extinguishing—embodying the unbreakable bond between bloodline, umbilical cord, and expectation.
